FOR the second successive week, Glangrwyney threw away a strong position and succumbed to defeat after losing by 16 runs at home to Herefordians.
The hosts elected to bat first and openers, veteran Bob Pendleton (29) and A. Thomas (28) batted slowly on a pitch of variable bounce against steady bowling from Richard James (0 for 21 off six), Haydn Davies (0 for 16 off seven), and Colin Griffiths (0 for 24 off eight).
Teenager Tom Millar (two for 31 off eight) got the breakthrough helped by Jonty Jones (three for 53 off eight) and Roger Edwards (one for 26 off eight) with the other fallen wicket coming from a run out by Bob Howell.
Big hitting by M. Sal (71) in the end gave Herefordians a respectable score of 187 for seven at the tea interval.
On batting, Glan openers Mike Parker (39) and Paul Daniel put on 20 for the first wicket before Daniel departed, soon followed by Bob Howell.
Lewis Morgan (30), Tom Miller (44) and Jonty Jones (23 n.o) all batted very well and with still only four an over needed and the score at 150 for four, the Glang were in a strong position. Disaster struck when Jonty Jones took an inside edge to his nose and left the pitch in need of medical attention. This disrupted Glan and although Jones bravely returned to the fray, subsequent batsmen, Edwards, Griffiths, Harding, James and Davies all went cheaply to give Herefordians the win.
On Saturday, July 27, Glangrwyney CC hold their next car boot sale at Cwrt-y-Gollen camp with an 8am start.
