ORGANISED by local motor club members, the 1000 Lanes Road Rally is one of the most popular rounds of the 12 round Welsh Association of Motor Clubs Road Rally Championship.

Starting and finishing at the Hogshead near Abergavenny last Saturday night, the organisers produced a classic route of 110 miles in the lanes around Abergavenny.

With wet and foggy conditions the attrition rate of competitors was high with just over half the competitors finishing the event.

The winners were Mark Roberts and Dylan Jenkins from West Wales who currently lead the championship with one round the Powys Lanes to go. Best result by a local crew was Craig Judd and Russell Williams in a Peugeot 306 who were third overall and first in their class.

Jonathan Gwillym and Byron Jones were fifth overall and third in class in a Ford Escort. Graham Edwards and Jordan Dziadulewicz came thirteenth and first in class in a Toyota Starlet. Alex Reynolds and Danny Tod finished  28th overall and 13th in their class, while Stephen Hoskins and Ian Davies were 32nd overall and third in their class. The organisers are grateful for the cooperation of house holders and land owners on route.
