BRYNMAWR rugby fan Phil Withers presented one of Welsh rugby's top community trophies at the recent SWALEC Finals Day.
The SWALEC lighting services team manager won the VIP role as part of a company-wide staff competition to present the prestigious SWALEC Cup to winning team Cross Keys who beat Pontypridd 32-19 in the final on Bank Holiday Monday.
Phil, who works at the energy company's Pontypool depot, watched the SWALEC Cup final at the Millennium Stadium with his family before stepping onto the famous pitch to present the winners with their trophy.
Phil said, "As a former player and captain of Cross Keys I was really keen to get the chance to present the trophy to my old team if at all possible, especially as we never made it this far when I was with them! I made a lot of really good friends when I played with the club and still check the team's results out of habit.
"The whole family is keen on rugby, so my wife and twin daughters came along with me on the day and we all had a great time. Obviously the icing on the cake was to witness my former club lifting the trophy. It was fantastic to find out that I'd been chosen to hand over the SWALEC Cup and it was a privilege and honour to present the winners medals and be part of the day."
