EAGLE-eyed sharp shooter Martyn Heywood proved to be sure of shot, steady of nerve and bang on the money as he targeted and bagged a host of titles at the British Open ABT Championships held at Scotland's Loch Ness Gun Club earlier this month. The experienced Abergavenny gunslinger won Welsh High Gun, Senior High Gun, International High Gun and the British Open with a score of 192 beating Chris Tate in the shoot off with a 24/25. Heywood, who is an exceptional and experienced shot with a lifetime of experience under his 'bullet belt' wasn't the only Abergavenny shootist blazing a trail to glory in the highlands. His 'partner in crime' Trevor Griffiths won the Veterans' Trophy to make it a double whammy for the dynamic duo from the Gateway to Wales. Such sure-fire success with a gun isn't so surprising when you learn that between the two of them, Griffiths and Heywood share almost 50 Welsh caps when it comes to shooting. Heywood's trophy cabinet is overflowing with honours he has won from all the events he has competed in over the years. Such as the Nations Cup, the Commonwealth Federation Championships and the various international matches. Heywood initially hung up his gun and called it a day in 2007, but Griffiths was having none of it and managed to persuade the retired gunslinger to reload and enter the fray once more. Which is just as well, because after resuming his affair with the rifle, Heywood, just like Griffiths, has proved yet again that they both still have their fingers firmly fixed on the triggers, eyes locked on the target and a taste for success. Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
