THE first weekend in February saw the return of the Bourse Welsh Masters, which was held at Swansea Tennis and Squash Club.

The tournament ran from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, and the highlight for Abergavenny Squash Club was the performance of Peter "John" Steed, who, in typical Avengers style, provided an upset by beating the number two and there seeds on his way to the final of the over-65 years old tournament.

Unfortunately, his dream of winning fell short, as his legs finally gave way, and he lost a close match in the final by three games to one to a very capable opponent. However, on the plus side, he has secured his place in the Welsh team for the home internationals in April.

Peter is pictured above proudly holding his runners-up trophy. He is one of the senior coaches at Abergavenny Squash Club, which is based at the Leisure Centre, where he provides both junior and senior coaching, with a particular interest in the over 40s who need to keep fit.
