Blaenavon Blues - 3

Pentwynmawr Athletic - 3

WITH the Pentwynmawr pitch waterlogged the fixture was transferred to Blaenavon's Memorial ground and groundsman Phil Payne is to be applauded for preparing the pitch after two nights of heavy rain.

Pentwynmawr took the lead on five minutes with a well taken penalty leaving Blues keeper Lee Jones with no chance.

Blues equalised 15 minutes in when Lee Penry set up Steve White for a simple tap in. In the 30th minute Mike Waite scored a fine goal, picking up the ball just outside the box, he turned and shot in one movement.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first half Pentwynmawr drew level, a good passing move ended with sub Owain Beddoe slotting home. Almost immediately Pentwynmawr took the lead, when too many Blues defenders were flat footed as Daniel Suter put his side in front.

During the second half the Blues pushed forward trying to find an equaliser and with time running out sub Lloyd Jeffries put a corner kick into a dangerous area, Grant Evans headed back across goal and Matt Cox applied the finishing touch to make it 3-3.

A great free kick by Waite saw White round the keeper but with too tight an angle to shoot at goal. White picked out Darren Harris on the edge of the area, but the big defender injured himself as he tried to get a shot on target. Right at the death Blues might have snatched victory when another Jeffries corner was headed narrowly wide by Cox.

This weekend the Blues welcome Clydach Wasps to the Memorial ground for a Gwent county league local derby. kick off is at 3pm.
