AN 83-strong field tackled the seven-mile 2,000 ft ascent Waun Fach fell race on Sunday, starting and finishing in Pengenffordd.

First home in 50 minutes 41 seconds was Rhys Goodrick of Vegan Runners, a full four minutes ahead of Josh Tremblay of Beacons fell club Mynyddwyr De Cymru.

James Blore of Chepstow Harriers was just 12 seconds back in third (54.54), followed another 21 seconds back by Neath Harriers' Iestyn Evans.

MDC's Ben Moon was fifth and fastest over-40 in 57.06, with first woman Julie Emmerson of Coventry Godiva Harriers sixth overall hot on his heels 20 seconds behind.

Bristol & West AC's Andrew Grigg was just four seconds behind in seventh, with Hannah Large of Abergavenny-based Mynydd Du second woman eighth in 58.41.

MD's Brett Mahoney was ninth in 58.58 and rounding out the top 10 and fastest over-50 man was Paul Murrin of Chepstow (59.25).

Second over-50 in 17th was MD's Ian Whistance who got home in 1.04.58, 1.33 behind club mate Joe Rumer in 15th and 1.43 ahead of fellow Aber runner Tim Laes in 18th.

Third woman in 1.10.59 was MDC's Katie Ironside, who came in 27th overall 2.28 and two places behind club mate Darren Shaw.

MD's Stephen Priestnell made it up and down in 1.11.28 to take the men's over-60s crown in 29th, pipping Mercia Fell Runners' Mark Agnew by 39 seconds to the class win.

Other MD finishers were Richard Holman (1.13.23), Debbie Stenner (1.16.38), Hilary Keogh (fastest over-60 woman) (1.21.20), Edward Bedwell (1.29.24), Rona Davies (1.37.44) and Andy Creber (1.53.32).

MDC's Simon Darke came home in 1.15.22 and club mate Andrew Blackmore in 1.17.56.

Fastest over-80 man in 2.05.22 was Gary Gunner of Croft Ambrey, while Marg Griffiths crossed in 2.33.53 to take the women's over-70 class.
