Abergavenny RFC - 101

ABERGAVENNY travelled to Blackwood stars on Saturday and came away with a resounding 101 points to five victory.

Aber’s coaches made a number of changes to the side. Jack Williams and Jay Adams joined Skipper James in the front row. Matt Collins and Josh Van Mael formed a new Second row pairing, and Rudi Lewis returned in the back row with Dan Beavan and Josh Davies.

Ryan Joyce and Rhod Webster slotted in as half backs, Nathan Byrne returned to partner Dan Smith in the centre, with Will Williams, Sam Vaughan and Lloyd Holder making up the back three.

Abergavenny started the game with a bang, running the ball at every opportunity.

Against a very disorganised defence they soon got on the score sheet with tries from Sam Vaughan, Rudi Lewis and Josh Davies.

Full back Will Williams was next to score and before the final whistle he completed a hat-trick.

The clarets had already made the result clear before half-time with further tries from Rhod Webster, Dan Beavan,Sam Vaughan and Lloyd Holder to make it 52-0.

The second-half saw further tries from Dan Beavan, Will Williams, and Lloyd Holder.

Replacement scrum-half Owen Jones, who was making his first team league debut, also helped himself to two tries.

Next week Aber face a much tougher test in their bid for promotion with an away game at Oakdale.

On Friday, April 27 the Quins are in the final of the Ivor Jones cup against Talywain. kick-off is 7.30pm at the Pontypool United ground. A bus will be leaving the club at 5.30pm. All support will be greatly appreciated.
