Crickhowell RFC - 24

West Mon RFC - 12

DESPITE the ravages of Storm Dennis, both Crickhowell and West Mon RFC braved the elements the weekend before last and managed to play some entertaining rugby.

Crickhowell were first on the scoreboard with a speedy try from Adam Sanchez, his first for the club. This was followed shortly afterwards when the speedy Harry Summers went over in the corner. Tempers flared in the scrum, briefly, and then good work from West Mon saw them break out and score and convert their first try.

Crickhowell pinned them back in their twenty-two and Mitch Collacott powered over for Crick’s third. They gained their bonus point try when Aaron Horne gathered the ball and found himself in space. With deceptive speed he then sold a defender a perfect dummy and glided over the line. Tom Keane had converted two of the tries leaving the half time score at 24-7.

West Mon’s defensive work prevented Crick scoring in the second half, but managed to gain a second try of their own when an always risky long pass was intercepted.

With both forwards and backs putting in a sterling performance, head coach John Nash commented, “It was a really tough game in worsening conditions. The boys showed their true mettle today and there were opportunities to score more points. We came away happy with the bonus point win.”

The club would like to thank match sponsor Geoff Howe, ball sponsor Duncan McInnes, and the hardcore spectators who turned out to support them in such atrocious weather.

With no other games being played in their league, Crick’s five points moved them to first place in League 3 East C. Their next encounter is away to Brynithel RFC on February 29.
