Crickhowell RFC - 26
Talywain RFC - 12
Crickhowell met Talywain RFC in the semi-final of the Ivor Jones Cup in front of a large crowd and managed to book their place in the final with a solid performance.
Darryl Reynolds opened proceedings with a score in the corner after receiving a long pass. Not to be outdone, Talywain replied with a try of their own to draw level.
Tom Keane missed a chance to regain the lead when a penalty shot went wide. Crick did stretch their lead shortly afterwards when Nick Dixon burst through to touch down.
Just before the break Harry Summers took the play into the Talywain 22 and Tom Keane swooped onto an overhead cross-kick to cross the whitewash. He converted his own try to make it 19-5 at half-time.
On resuming play Talywain managed to stifle much of the home side’s attacks and were rewarded with a try from a well-worked rolling maul, converted.
Play moved back and forth between the sides, but it was Crickhowell’s Zach Mills who finished off a superb touchline-to-touchline move under the posts with Keane again converting to make the match safe, 26-12.
The club would like to thank Jeff Howe, who sponsored the game, and the Llangynidr Suckers who sponsored the match ball.
Crickhowell now go on to meet west Mon RFC in the final at Pontypool United’s ground on the evening of Friday, April 26.
Prior to the final, the club’s final league game is away to Pontllanfraith on Saturday, April 20. With Trefil RFC unfortunately having to drop out of the league, if Crick beat Pontllanfraith, they look set to claim third place in Three East C after the totals have been adjusted.
