Crickhowell RFC - 13
Trinant RFC - 13
CRICKHOWELL knew they had a tough task ahead when they welcomed unbeaten league leaders Trinant RFC to Parc Broyd on Saturday.
From the off, Trinant attacked strongly but their efforts were thwarted by a stout Crick defensive effort and it soon became the home team who were launching attacks and putting the visitors on the back foot.
The score remained blank until well into the first-half when Trinant kicked two penalties. Crick had an opportunity to close the gap with their own penalty shortly afterwards later but the kick went wide leaving them trailing by six points at the break.
The second half started much like the first with attacks toing and froing until Zach Mills outpaced Trinant’s defence to score a try with Tom Keane’s conversion giving Crick a one point lead. Keane later added a further brace of penalties, stretching Crick’s lead to 13 - 6. Trinant’s desperate attacks to reduce the gap were again repulsed by the home team, but with constant pressure on the Crickhowell line in the dying seconds, the visitors managed to score a converted try snatching a draw and denying Crick the victory.
The ever-alert Richard Rhydderch-Roberts was awarded Man-of-the-Match by his opponents for being a constant thorn in their side.
The match ball was sponsored by Colin Prewecki and the game was sponsored by Nigel Watkins and Mathew Younger of Brickfab in Pontypool.
Crick’s post-protectors have lasted them 10 years but are now in a state of disrepair so there is a good advertising opportunity to have your company brand on all four posts at Parc Broyd. Get in touch with the club for more details.
Next Saturday sees Crick with another tough fixture when they travel down to take on the new league leaders and unbeaten Newport Saracens.
