Abergavenny Mini RFC under 12s travelled to Kings Norton in Worcestershire on the weekend and were crowned champions.

As the season draws to a close, rugby tournaments are very popular and usually involve a full day of rugby with several games being played.

The day consisted of two pools of teams, which meant four games for Abergavenny during the pool stage.

Aber won the first game 6-0, the second game 5-0, the third game 4-0, and the fourth game 4-1. After a successful run of results Abergavenny won the pool and were into the cup final where their opposition was Droitwich.

Abergavenny unfortunately conceded a try within the first few minutes and with the games only being 15 minutes long, the pressure was on.

Both teams gave an excellent display of rugby and the half time whistle blew too quickly. A quick pep talk and it was game on.

Droitwich restarted and the ball was taken at pace, possession was kept and it resulted with Will Phillips scoring the equalizer a few minutes later.

Now the boys were back in business, and with a few minutes to go, a lot of hard work, excellent tackling and ball handling from every player, Ben Main (Mr Bean) managed to burst through the defence and take the ball over the line to score.

With a few minutes left the instruction was, “no mistakes just defend for your lives”, and after the restart and a few frantic minutes, the whistle blew for full time and Aber were crowned champions.

The club would like to say a big congratulations to the boys and a big thanks to all of the parents and coaches involved in the day.
