THERE'S a little over a week remaining until one of the toughest races in the Welsh borders - Darren's Dash. The Darren's Dash hill race was first held in 2006. Since that time it has attracted runners from across the UK to the Herefordshire village of Longtown to take on the tough, hilly course on the eastern edge of the Black Mountains. The course is just under six miles long with 1500ft of ascent. New course records were established for all categories in 2012. The sponsoring club is Wye Valley Runners, hill safety cover will be provided by Longtown Mountain Rescue Team, and the event centre is Longtown Community Primary School. The scenery is stunning and a warm Longtown welcome awaits all runners and their families. A family fun run and other children's entertainment will be available together with refreshments. All races start at 2pm on Sunday June 15. Entries on the day are allowed or you can pre-enter by downloading the entry form from the club website http://www.wyevalleyrunners.co.uk/darrens-dash">www.wyevalleyrunners.co.uk/darrens-dash. Proceeds from the event will be split between Longtown School PTFA, Longtown Pre-school and Longtown Mountain Rescue Team.
