The members of the committee of Penpergwm Tennis Club came together to show appreciation for the 12 years of service Helena Gerrish has shown as secretary to Monmouthshire’s oldest lawn tennis club.

To say that she has been there for the club in both rain and shine would not be understating her commitment, having organised any number of tennis suppers, tournament lunches and afternoon teas whatever the weather!

The committee and friends who have helped Helena over the years met at Llanover House at the invitation of Elizabeth Murray who organized a very convivial evening with the help of Charlotte Griffiths who along with her husband William, from The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny provided a delicious buffet from the hotel kitchen.

The Chairman of the club David Vaughan, had composed a fitting and witty ode to Helena and members of the committee gave their own thanks individually.

Charlotte will be taking over Helena’s role as secretary of the club as the club looks forward to its adult open tournament July 15-17, swiftly followed by the junior tournament (11-17 yrs) on July 18-19. Further details available from [email protected].
