The season has started well for Abergavenny Youth Netball Club. Over the last few weeks the U15s and the U13s have both been in action and return home from the South East Wales League with a 100 percent winning record.
First up were the U15s who dazzled with their speed, agility and spatial awareness around the court. The first win of 18-6 was against Ystrad, but the real victory came against Abertillery who were demolished 23-4. The last combination of Katherine Carter-Evans, Rebecca Williams, Megan Taylor, Maddie Barrell, Ashleigh Paton, Falisha Lewis and Steph Keffley was lethal and the opposition never stood a chance.
For sheer determination, amazing interceptions and supporting play down court WD Megan Taylor got the U15s player of the day. For the U13s this was their first ever trip to the League and they had every reason to be nervous, but they didn't need to be.
First up was Ystrad and a win of 9-2 helped the team settle down to face the day ahead. Next up was Gilfach who again were soundly beaten 7-1. Then Abergavenny took on Newbridge, who always have a fierce reputation for great netball, but Abergavenny needn't have worried as they won a convincing 10-0. And finally the match of the day against Tredegar.
First half Abergavenny were up 4-0, but then some strategic changes saw a winning combination and the team win in the end by 13-2.
Players of the day went to Megan Spiers for her awesome defence and interceptions (particularly when she would rather play shooter) and Hermione Holder who never stopped fighting and basically took her opposition out of the game.
