ABERGAVENNY'S Maddie Davies has been selected to represent Wales in the forthcoming Commonwealth Taekwondo championships which will be held in Edinburgh this weekend.

The 15-year-old King Henry VIII pupil will compete alongside Olympic Gold medallist and team captain Jade Jones.

After her recent performances in the GB National championships and last month's double Gold medals at the Yorkshire Open Championships, finishing with two stoppages, Maddie has been handpicked to compete in the 63kg category.

After recently transferring over from ITF style Taekwondo and freestyle kickboxing, where she is a black belt in both disciplines, Maddie joined Cardiff club Taekwondo Cymru, who have direct links with the GB academy, to fulfil her dream of representing Great Britain in the 2020 Olympics.

With Master Porl Stone and his team getting to work, the last few months have transformed Maddie into the WTF Olympic style competitor she is today.

Additionally, being an instructor at Abergavenny's Verve Martial Arts Centre, gives Maddie plenty of opportunity to train without distraction and hone her techniques.

In the three WTF Olympic style competitions Maddie has entered this year, she has obtained three gold medals including Chung Do Kwan WTF British Champion 2014 and Yorkshire Open Champion in the 63kg and 59kg categories.
