FORMER Welsh international Shane Williams was the special guest as Crickhowell RFC's annual awards night held at the town's Conservative Club.
Shane very kindly agreed to hand out the awards, take part in a special question and answer session and generally mixed well with all those present, with tales of his amazing career.
Chairman Shaun Ellis thanked Shane for his valuable time in supporting Crickhowell and thanked all those players and committee who have made his first year as chairman thoroughly enjoyable.
Shaun also thanked all those responsible for sponsoring Crickhowell this year as without them the club would not exist.
Shaun also welcomed Lawrence Watts as the new president of the club and thanked outgoing president Colin James for his hard work over the past three years in the post.
Before the awards were handed out, team manager, Phil Tovey reinforced the fact that this had been a very tough season for Crickhowell as they had been moved into the division six central league which meant a lot of travelling to fixtures and playing against some very good opposition.
It was a challenge however that the Crickhowell players rose to and against the odds the team managed a sixth place finish in a very challenging league.
Tovey confirmed that the club will be chasing promotion next year and he hoped that the team will start the new season as they finished the last - with winning ways and a fantastic team spirit.
The awards for the night were as follows:
Back of the year – Adam Howells.
Forward of the year – Mat Price.
Most improved player – John Bennet.
Players Player – Mat Price.
Clubman of the year – Shaun Ellis.
Crickhowell coach Mark Withey has confirmed that the successful touch rugby league which was well supported last year will be running again this year on Thursdays from 7pm. All are welcome.
