Tredegar Town - 0
Goytre- 2
WITH one side chasing promotion and another fleeing from relegation, Goytre's match against Tredegar was always going to be a hurly burly affair.
In a tough and physical encounter the early exchanges were cagey with little in the way of fast, flowing and attractive football. Yet, 11 minutes in Goytre drew first blood from a corner which was met at the back post by Matt Prosser who lad the ball back for Corey Jenkins to slam a thunderous half volley into the far corner of the net.
The early goal didn't lead to either team raising their standard of play but Richie Jeremiah's pace prove a handful for the homeside's back four who struggled to cope with the movement and ball over the top.
Tredegar's only offensive push relied on the long ball approach which was easily neutralised by Dean Taylor and Matthew Prosser.
As the half progressed Goytre applied the pressure and were rewarded for their efforts just before half-time when a free kick was whipped into the box by Simon Truman and met by Luke Prosser, whose powerful header was parried by the Tredegar goalkeeper straight into the path of Callum Miles for a well-deserved goal.
The second half started as the first had ended with both defences playing the major role in the game. As the half wore on more gaps began to appear enabling Goytre's midfield to get a little more creative.
This led to several half chances which wouldn't quite fall for the Goytre front men. Tredegar continued to use the long ball tactic but again the Goytre backline dealt with everything thrown at them and keeper Scott James was forced only to make routine saves.
Goytre now sit second in the Welsh League Division Three Table and will look for another result when they face Bridgend Street this Saturday.
