Govilon - 2

Fairfield Utd - 3

GOVILON bowed out of the County Motors Cup against Fairfield Utd despite taking the lead within the first minute when Jamie Summers hammered a free kick past Randall in Fairfield's goal.

Govilon pressed during the remainder of the first half, but could not add to their tally, and during the second half Fairfield came more into the game.

Govilon's 'keeper Dan Parsons made a fingertip save to preserve their lead and in the next minute saved well from a free kick.

It was on the hour that Fairfield drew level when Govilon's defence failed to deal with a cross and when the ball fell kindly to Fairfield's Stokes he fired into the roof of the net.

With the scores locked 1-1 after ninety minutes the match went into extra time and Govilon regained the initiative when Bannon jinked into the box and slotted past Randall, but moments later Fairfield were awarded a penalty and although Parsons saved the spot kick he was powerless to save the rebound.

It was a similar story with Fairfield's winner with Parsons parrying a fierce shot, but Fairfield were quicker to the rebound and advance to the quarter finals.

Govilon are not in action on Saturday as three of their side, Parsons, Rhys Whiteman and Dean Morgan represent Gwent in the UEFA Regions cup on Sunday.
