Govilon - 11

New Inn Utd - 0

GOVILON are through to the next round of the County Motors Cup after showing New Inn little mercy and thrashing them 11-0.

The Gwent County division one outfit opened their account in spectacular style after 15 minutes when Craig Norman volleyed in from 25 yards and clearly spelt out Govilon's intent to their third division opponents.

Govilon increased their lead when Chris Tyler was on hand at the far post to tap home from close range, and 30 minutes in the floodgates opened when James Hughes volleyed home in similar style to Norman.

Rhys Whiteman netted number four and Norman was on the score-sheet again shortly after. His lobbed effort was almost saved by New Inn's 'keeper Beckinsale who was unlucky to see the ball fall behind his back into goal, as Govilon settled for a 5-0 interval lead.

Neville Harris hit the bar with a powerful header early in the second half and moments later he scored with a neat flick. Dean Morgan added two more goals in a ten minute spell midway through the second half and half time substitute Craig Thomas brought the ball down in the box and turned to fire into the net as the home team approached double figures.

Craig Norman intercepted a pass in the New Inn box and rattled home for a hat trick and his side's tenth goal, and when Rhys Whiteman latched on to a fine Scott Wall cross the rout was complete.

Govilon return to league action on Saturday when they entertain Pill FC, (kick-off is at 2pm).

Abergavenny Thursdays - 3

Marshfield - 2

MEANWHILE in Gwent County division three, the Abergavenny Thursdays are on the promotion trail after beating second placed Marshfield FC at Pen-y-Pound.

The winning goal came courtesy of Leon Gilchrist late in the game, and moves the Thursdays up into third position - ideally placed for a big push in what could be a very exciting end to the season for the Thursdays, who at long last might finally be on their uppers.

Elsewhere, in Gwent County division two, the Mardy mashed Malpas 2-7, and in Welsh League division two, an unbeatable Goytre made it 13 straight league wins on the bounce and beat Cariff Corinthians 1-3.
