MONMOUTHSHIRE Golf Club have had a busy start to their season with both Club Captain Steve Parry and Ladies Captain Dawn Towell’s “drive-ins” watched by a good army of supporters.

The Ladies section have already enjoyed major success in the County Championships, with Julie Miles winning the Bronze category and India Lesbirel winning the best Junior category.

Some excellent scores were returned in the competitions on Captain’s Day. In the morning 4BBB, G. Davies and S.Thomas won with 43 points. The Junior competition was won by Joe Hill in his first competitive event as a member of the club, with a score of 37 points, and the Mixed Foursomes in the afternoon was won by Rod Jones and Sue Cole with a score of 40 points.

The competition for 2s in the afternoon saw only one pair have a 2 - and it just happened to be Club Captain and Ladies Captain, Steve and Dawn.

A government supported programme to attract new players to the game of golf had a fun afternoon launch recently at the club.

Juniors and Ladies were supported by relatives as they enjoyed friendly golf activities designed to gently introduce some golf techniques to newcomers.

This part of the programme follows on from a series of In School events that the club has taken into local primaries.

The next stage is to offer introductory golf lessons at the club for anyone interested in the sport.
