LAST Thursday saw the Ladies section of the Monmouthshire Golf Club hold their annual Prize Presentation after a 11 hole competition which was won by Julie Miles with a creditable 21 points.

The night before Finals Day the weather gods decided to be very difficult – there was torrential rain during the night and it took a major effort from green staff and volunteers to enable the Finals to be played at all.

The Club Championship was won by Caroline Cole after an extremely close 37 hole contest, beating Dawn Towell in a high quality match.

The Bronze championship was won by Lorraine Taylor who beat Ann Gimblett. Maureen Jones won the Gethin Bowl, beating Tanya Nicholls and the Bush Salver was won by Lorraine Taylor. Sian Gwilliam won the Ann Unwin trophy beating Megan Edwards.

The final of the day had to be the Beverley Burton Foursomes in which Susan Hellyar and Maureen Jones took Dawn Towell and Tanya Nicholls to the 39th hole – what a marathon.

Other competitions won throughout the year included the National Competitions the Peugeot foursomes and the Daily Mail foursomes. Both of these were won by the formidable partnership of Gwen James and Maureen Jones which will be a pairing to watch next season! Many other members won medals, Bowls, Cups and Trophies too numerous to mention but Congratulations to all the winners.

The Ladies league teams have been sponsored for several years by Keith Kendal Williams of Lebowke Logistics. What a success story – the first team won their league and are now promoted to Division Three East with the second team also gaining promotion to Division Four East due to Raglan Parc ladies having to drop out of the league. Thanks are due to Keith and who knows what may happen next season!
