GLANGRWYNEY CC's second team got their delayed season off to a comprehensive eight wicket win over Almeley in Division Five of the Marches League.
New captain Colin Griffiths won the all important toss and duly inserted Almeley on a rain affected wicket.
Opening bowlers, veteran Haydon Davies (three for 12 off six) and 15-year-old Richard James (two for 18 off eight) bowled really well, pitching the ball up to the batsmen and soon Almeley were in dire straits at 20 for five.
Veteran Colin Griffiths (two for 12 off seven) made further inroads with debutant wicket keeper Geriant James (father of Richard) taking a sharp catch off Griffiths's very first ball. Griffiths then bowled Foster next ball but Almeley captain Alun Griffiths (22 n.o.) blocked his hat-trick ball.
Veteran Eddie Harding (three for 19 off nine) with the aid of two good catches by Lewis Morgan mopped up the tail, leaving Almeley 63 all out in 30 overs.
In reply, Glan openers Bob howell (35 n.o.) and Lewis Morgan (12) put on 26 for the first wicket before Morgan departed soon followed by prolific batsman Jonny Jones (0) toppled LBW.
Colin Griffiths (9 n.o.) finished through to see the Glan home with a stand worth 30 runs in the 25th over.
It was a good, all-round performance by Glangrwyney and a special mention must go to the grounds-men for getting the ground ready after such inclement weather.
