THIS Saturday would have been the biggest fight of Kieran Gething’s career, but his date with destiny in Cardiff on Saturday was cancelled at the last minute due to his opponent, Tony Dixon, pulling out with an injury.

it’s a body blow for any boxer, especially one who had high hopes of winning the Welsh Welterweight title.

But looking disappointment square in the eye and facing any challenge head on is the true creed of any fighter, and the 23-year-old is now looking forward to the fresh challenge of going toe-to-toe with the experienced Bradley Price over six rounds.

Gething told the Chronicle, “I’m very disappointed that I couldn’t fight Tony Dixon this time round after he suffered an injury. However, I hope that he gets well soon as I really want to beat him for the welterweight title.

“On the flip side I’ve got a fight against Bradley Pryce, a three division champion, and I’m relishing the opportunity to show my skills and things I’ve been developing in the gym.

“I think Bradley will want to come in strong but won’t have the longevity that he used to, I predict a wide points win or late stoppage.”

Gething revealed, “If I get through this fight unscathed I’m going to be straight back into action at the first opportunity.”

The boxer added, “I want to thank everyone that has bought tickets for this fight and shown me support, I couldn’t do it without them, nor without my sponsors. DT Contracting, Euphoria Tanning, Readers Commercial Kitchens, WJW Self Storage, Border Bobcat, Proweld, Nye’s Properties and Cardiff Readymix Concrete.

Gething’s fight will be broadcast live this Saturday night on S4C.
