NOT one to rest on his laurels, Welsh super-lightweight champion Kieran Gething will be getting back into the ring on St. David’s Day before turning his attention to a British title eliminator in May.
Gething will face Spanish giant, Damian Esquisabel, at Cardiff’s Vale Sports Arena on March 1, and explained, “Esquisabel is about six foot three and I’ve never fought anyone quite that tall before so it’ll definitely be a learning curve. I don’t think he’ll prove a problem though. The fight will be filmed so I’m keen to make a statement to the wider world just what I’m capable of.”
Next on the agenda will be the British super-lightweight title eliminator against the undefeated Darren Surtees in Newcastle.
Gething told the Chronicle, “Surteess is a good fighter but I don’t think he’s had the standard of fights I’ve had, and come May he’s going to lose his undefeated record.”
If all goes well Gething will also be looking for a Celtic title at some point this summer.
Gething added, “With fights so close together I’d just like to thank all the people in Abergavenny for buying tickets and their unbelievable support. I’d also like to thank Howard Davies of Giles Davies Ltd and Leigh Haslett of Abergavenny Fast Cars for their continued sponsorship. It’s much appreciated.”
