LAST weekend, gardener, TV presenter, writer and of course, our very own columnist, Lynne Allbutt ran into the record books by becoming the first person to run the width of Wales barefoot. Lynne ran the 51 miles with the support of local newlyweds, Gary and Rose Mapletoft who spent their honeymoon marking the route and acting as back up crew for the Challenge. Far from being an Ultra Runner and in spite of a busy work schedule, in just six months Lynne trained herself to be able to run 50 miles, (almost two marathons) in two days, as well as having to learn the 'barefoot running technique', and condition her bare feet to cope with all sorts of terrain from tarmac to moorland (during the wettest winter on record). Lynne said, "It has been the most incredible journey with lots of support and magic moments and I've had to 'dig deep' to get my mind, body and Spirits to work together. It's a great feeling to have achieved a 'first' and I'm really grateful to everyone who has been involved in making it happen. "
