Abergavenny RFC - 16

Abertysswg Falcons - 8

FOLLOWING last week’s away defeat to Pontypool United, Abergavenny returned to Bailey Park looking to bounce back to wining ways against visitors Abertysswg Falcons.

Aber were forced to make a number of changes from the previous week with Ieuan James coming in at hooker, Kole Parrot having his first start at lock and Rudi Lewis returning to the back row.

Ryan Joyce and Rhodri Webster slotted into half back, Nathan Byrne partnered Dan Cox in the centre and Josh Parr made his club debut at fullback.

In a very scrappy and disjointed first half it was the visitors who took the initiative and went 8-0 up with an unconverted try and a penalty.

Aber kept their heads high and worked their way back into the game with two penalties by Webster and Parr.

With the game finally balanced at 6-8, a moment of brilliance by winger Will Williams to break out of his own half, carried on by some fine interplay, saw him receive the ball back to score a fine try, converted by Parr, to put Aber in the lead for the first time.

The home side’s fitness was now showing and for the last quarter of the game they were on top. A penalty by Parr made the game safe.

This was a hard fought victory for this young Abergavenny side and should give them confidence for next week’s away trip to Pill harriers.
