Rhyl Ladies -1
Abergavenny Women - 3
THE year began for Abergavenny Women with a tough away trip to Rhyl, knowing a win would secure them second place in the Welsh Premier Women’s League at the halfway point of the season.
After a month without a game and several players missing it was understandable that they were a little rusty in the opening stages, as Rhyl had plenty of the ball early on.
After 20 minutes a ball from Kate Jeremiah found Eliza Atkins whose shot was saved. Left winger Lauren Daniels pounced on the rebound to poke home from close range for an early lead. The advantage was short-lived. Eight minutes later a mistake at the back allowed a Rhyl midfielder to head home and level the scores.
The second half saw Abergavenny gain the upper hand. Ceri Hudson and Laura Davies dominated the midfield battle and got their reward after 65 minutes when Kate Jeremiah slid in goal machine Lyndsey Davies who slotted home to give her side a deserved lead.
Ten minutes later Lyndsey Davies became the supplier and put in Kate Jeremiah who fired home to secure the points and a comfortable victory.
