Saturday saw Glangrwyney first team travel with some trepidation to runaway league leaders Luctonians.
Luctonians won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that looked to be one for the batsmen. Despite this, Glangrwyney’s bowlers kept the batsmen honest, Luctonians seeming more intent on accumulating runs quietly and ensuring that they achieved the maximum batting points for the team rather than attacking at every opportunity.
An opening partnership of 72 between D.Platford and H.Light was broken by Mike Devoy. The introduction of Gethin Price into the attack during the second half of the innings helped to keep the scoring rate under check, claiming four wickets which were picked up at regular intervals aided by a solid catching display from the fielders.
James Platford top scored for the home side with 98n.o. to see the innings close on what the home side probably thought was only a par score for them for that particular day, but having achieved their main objective.
In reply, Glangrwyney made a stuttering start against an accurate bowling attack that reflected the home side’s league leader status, however, Drew Heffernan soon came to terms with them and runs started to flow.
Barry Sharp definitely found the wicket to his liking striking the ball to all parts remaining 87n.o. at the end, and keeping Glangrwyney up with the required run rate, Gethin Price helping out, being equally impressive with the bat.
In the end Glangrwyney ran out of batsmen and the home side achieved a comfortable victory. Wickets were shared between the Luctonians bowlers, P.Griffiths the most successful.
Glangrwyney’s second team had a day off on Saturday their scheduled opponents unable to raise a side.
