ABERGAVENNY First X1 ended their season on Saturday with a defeat away to local rivals Usk.

Usk won the toss and batted first. Abergavenny bowlers ensured a steady flow of wickets and the home side were it trouble at 103 for eight but the last two wickets managed to realise 63 runs as they finished on 166 all out in the 44th over.

The Abergavenny bowlers were in fine form. David Clarke came good in the final game and achieved his best return of the season with 4-35. The ever reliable Sam Clarke (2-40) ensured he remained the leading wicket taker of the season. Ben Morris returned his best figures of the season with 3-24 and Geraint Leach chipped in with one wicket.

Chasing a target that should have been relatively easy Abergavenny found themselves at 19-3. Hardly the start they wanted. Adam Harrison (52) and Dan Cooke (35) went some way to correcting the chase but from 104-6 they faltered and fell 14 runs short of victory.

Tail menders Sam Clarke (21) and Geraint Leach (12) did their best but to no avail.
