Glangrwyney Cricket Club were honoured by the Brecon and Radnor Sports Partnership at their annual Sports Personality Awards presentation evening held at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon. Representatives of clubs in the region from many different sports filled the auditorium to celebrate wide ranging success for individuals and teams both able bodied and disabled.
The shortlist for club of the year 2015 included Builth Wells Golf club, Glangrwyney Cricket Club and Irfon Judo club. Steve Watkins of Cricket Wales announced the winner was Glangrwyney thanks to their remarkable achievement in bringing the long dormant ground at Cwrt-y-Gollen into a facility to be proud of alongside achieving league winning success on the field and reestablishing a 2nd XI thanks to a substantial increase in playing members. He also praised the club for creating links with local schools.
Further honour came to the club when stalwart Mike Rouse received an individual award for Outstanding Service to Sport in the region. Again Steve Watkins spoke of Mike’s involvement in virtually every role imaginable at cricket and football clubs in the region over more than 40 years. His dedication to sport has also seen him undertake voluntary roles in league administration and as a cricket umpire and appointments officer. Referring to the excellent cricket ground at Cwrt-y-Gollen, Steve said this was in no small measure down to the unstinting effort of Mike as club groundsman.
