Glangrwyney Cricket Club recently held their Annual Dinner at the Old Rectory Hotel, Llangattock where 40 members and friends enjoyed an evening celebrating the events of the last year. Chairman, Eddie Harding, welcomed principal guest Kirsty Williams AM, thanking her for her continuing support of the club at Cwrt-y-Gollen.
In response she praised the club for building on its achievements in recent years by enhancing the playing facilities and providing coaching support to local schools, and stressed how it was important for community clubs to flourish and provide opportunity for young people to take part in active sport.
Turning to the playing side, Eddie congratulated the teams on completing a successful season with the 1st XI retaining their place in Division One of the Marches League and the 2nd XI completing the season in Division Four despite a shortage of players in some weeks.
Eddie also spoke of the excellent catering provision of a number of ladies during the season and bouquets were presented to Beverley Hooper, Helen Devoy and Jen Morgan for their hard work.
Introducing the playing awards for the season, the Chairman was pleased to see some newcomers to the club receiving the awards.
The President, Jim Devoy, presented the following awards.
Batting Award 1st XI – Ryan Murphy Sharpe, 2nd XI – Jim Astle.
Bowling Award 1st XI – Michael Devoy, 2nd XI – Eryl Cooke.
Young Player Award – Drew Heffernan.
Fielding Award – Michael Devoy.
Silver Plate for scoring century – Drew Heffernan.
Silver Plate for five wickets in innings – Michael Devoy (4 times), Julian Hardwick, Ryan Murphy Sharpe.
The President then presented Life Membership awards to The Chairman and to Rob Richards for the work over many years to continually improve all aspects of the Club and its impact on the Community.
Finally the Chairman thanked all the local businesses who had sponsored the club in some way and the many friends who made donations. He thanked the staff of the Old Rectory for providing an excellent meal with efficient service and hoped all present had enjoyed their evening.
