ABERGAVENNY CC’s First X1 played their last game of the season against Pontypridd CC who were the visitors to Avenue Road.

Play was due to commence at 12.30pm but there was a delay and the overs were reduced to 40 per side.

Pontypridd batted first and after losing their first wicket at 28 they consolidated to 84 for two. They then lost wickets intermittently until they closed on 170-6. The most successful bowler was James Watkins with 3-40, backed up by Adam Harrison.

Harrison has bowled really well all season without the rewards in the wickets column but his economy rate of 2.77 per over is extremely good. The other wicket taker was Sam Clarke with 1-23.

In reply Abergavenny once again lost an early wicket when Will Glen was bowled for 12 with the score on 14. Gareth Burkitt and Adam Harrison put together a partnership to take the score to 77-2, Gareth Burkitt was then out for 45. Gareth Powell was next to go for 18 with the score on 117. This left 47 required from the final six overs. Harrison was then adjudged lbw for 37 followed quickly by David Clarke for eight. With two overs to go Abergavenny were 155-5.

Lewis Holley fell for three leaving 11 to win off the last over. Skipper Geraint Leach was run out and Abergavenny fell agonisingly four runs short of victory.
