ABERGAVENNY Cricket Club’s third team were left disappointed as Garnons seconds forfeited the last game of the season early on Saturday morning.
The Beavers will however consider this as another successful season, finishing third in the table after last season’s fourth place.
In the Goodrich match the visitors needed two runs to win with three wickets in hand but somehow they managed to throw it away.
Against Talybont, Aber got off to a poor start, being 20-5 at one point, but managed to score 137-9. With only three available bowlers Abergavenny were able to bowl Talybont out for 86 to complete the victory.
Aber used 27 players in the eleven league games played. Kyle Holmes was leading run scorer for the team with 269 runs, which included an 105 not out against Goodrich Seconds. Captain Mark Winstanley also contributed 264 runs, hitting 126 against Garnons earlier in the season, while Jon Lamont and Gavin Nash played some important knocks throughout the season
Gavin Nash was leading wicket taker with his 16 wickets coming at an average of 17 with a best of 5/22 against Builth Wells Seconds. Owain Bradley was next with 14 wickets with a 6/32 versus Talybont on Usk and 5/28 against Builth Wells Seconds. Youngsters Meici Jones, Alex Holmes, Ben Morris and Lewys Wilkes-McCarthy all played their parts with the ball when required.
