Usk RFC -19
Ynysddu RFC - 25
SATURDAY saw Usk entertain high flying Ynysddu and suffer a narrow loss in a game which could have gone either way.
After a period of aimless kicking from both sides, the visitors got into their stride and scored a converted try to take a seven point lead.
The Usk forwards were creating problems for Ynysddu and soon got on the scoreboard with a driving maul from a line out and Dan Vella touched down for the try.
However, Ynysddu soon extended their lead with a second try. Usk fought back and Jon Matthews made a fine break to score Usk's second try and John Green converted to level the scores at 12-12.
An Usk indiscretion allowed the visitors to regain the lead with a penalty but the lead changed hand again just before half time when John Green scored a try which he duly converted to give Usk a 19-15 lead gong into the interval.
The second half started badly for Usk when the restart kick did not go the required distance. From the resultant scrum Ynysddu went straight through to score under the posts and they duly converted to retake the lead.
The game went from end to end with neither side able to break the other's defence. Usk came closest to a score when Will Morgan was stopped just short of the line. Ynysddu secured the game just before the end with another penalty.
