GILWERN Bowls Club will be turning 25 this year and it is approaching its silver anniversary in the rudest of health.
It is the youngest club in the area and its members are a mixed bunch of ages and abilities.
Erica Price and Ian Cole who play for the Wales para bowls team both ply their trade there, and amongst the club’s ranks you’ll find two qualified umpires and a number of coaches who are more than happy to take the time to mentor new players and develop their skills.
Club spokesperson David Carter explained, “We’ve got a full season of fixtures ahead for both the male, female and mixed teams. To celebrate our silver anniversary year we’ve also arranged a number of fun fixtures with teams from West Wales to Warwickshire.”
Mr Carter added, “The club is located in a perfect spot and we’re a friendly bunch who enjoy a thriving social life. We cater for all ages and abilities and I’d recommend anyone who is interested in trying out one of the most historic and satisfying of sports to pop along. I guarantee you’ll be bowled over by a warm welcome.”
The club will be opening a special Opening Day this Saturday (April 13) for anyone wishing to try their hand on the “green of dreams.”
