ABERGAVENNY Bowls Club hosted Garndiffaith in the South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies League in midweek and ran out 45-16 winners.

Jenni MacGregor, Sue Pritchard, Mary Vale and Sue Williams were 8-8 after six ends but then took control to win 19-12.

And Mary Evans, Val Jones, Lesley Radley and Mandy Harris led 11-2 after eight ends and ran out 26-4 winners.

Wednesday also saw Abergavenny take a tight 51-47 win at Monmouth in their final East Monmouthshire BA league game.

John Vale, Courtney Hemmings, Dave Cooper and Ian McCuish were 6-6 after six ends and then squeezed home 19-17.

On Jimmy Harris, Denis McDaid, Dave Hill and Ron Harris’ rink it was 4-4 at seven ends and stayed close until Abergavenny scored three consecutive threes.

Monmouth then hit back with a six on the 15th, but Aber just prevailed 18-17.

And Mike Collins, Richard Richards, Mike McGonagall and Tom Cobb won the last four ends to win their rink 14-13.

But on Friday at Ystrad Mynach in the South Wales Mixed League, Aber lost out 51-40.

John MacGregor, Peter Steed, Cath Badham and Sue Williams trailed 17-1 at one point and went down 28-8.

Jenni MacGregor, Mandy Harris, Ronnie Harris and Tom Cobb led 7-1, but were pushed to a 14-13 winning score.

And Dave Cooper, Val Jones, Julia Salter and Mary Evans dominated the last eight ends to win 18-10.

On Saturday morning, the ladies hosted Ynysddu in the Mary Wardle League and were 9-9 after nine ends.

But a six on the 14th put Aber in control, and they won out 21-15.

The Gwent BL team also won 44-40 at home to Caldicot on Saturday afternoon.

Dave Cooper, Val Jones, Roger Griffiths and Gerald Parry lost 18-13, while Mary Evans, John Vale, Ian McCuish and Sue Williams were beaten 16.5-13 by a three-man Caldicot rink.

Mike McGonagall, Mandy Harris, Colin Hughes and Charles Harper were also playing against a team of three, but beat their opponents 18-6.

The Monmouthshire BA team travelled to Six Bells to play on a fast, tricky and brown green, and missed out 85.2-70.

Jimmy Harris, Fred Mutimer, Ron Harris and Peter Steed fought back to 12 all at the 14th end, and won six of the last seven ends to win 25-13.

Mike Collins, Steve File, Stephen Williams and Tom Cobb were trailing 8-2 after seven ends but fought back to lead 12-9 at the 14th end,

Six Bells overtook Abergavenny on the 18th end, before Abergavenny tied the score at 15-15 on the penultimate end, but the hosts won the final end to edge it 16-15.

John MacGregor, Dave Hill, Denis McDaid and Mike Hayward were 22-21 down on the 20th end, but a six then condemned them to a 28-21 loss.

And Rob Pursey, John Newell, Courtney Hemmings and Paul Jones were dominated by Six Bells being 9-3 down after eight ends.

Six Bells’ advantage continued to grow and it was 19-7 at the 14th end.

Abergavenny weren't allowed into the game and the gap increased until the last end when the final rink score was 28-9.
