Blaenavon Blues - 2

Cwmbran Town - 2

BLAENAVON Blues entertained Cwmbran Town at the Memorial ground and with both sides having mediocre starts to the season any result for either side would be very welcome.

After a dour first quarter, the game came alive when Lloyd Jeffries forced Town keeper Daniel Wise into a good save.

Forty minutes in and a mistake by Wise gifted young Blues striker Dylan Mason a chance but he hesitated and the moment was gone.

Five minutes into the second half and Town hit the Blues crossbar and in their next attack were awarded a debatable penalty, which fortunately for the Blues was put wide.

Into the last quarter, the game was set alight when Marc Browning scored a superb goal. Winninga tackle just inside the Town half, Browning let fly from 35 yards and beat Wise with an unstoppable shot.

This stirred Cwmbran into action and they quickly equalised and then took the lead after poor marking in the Blues defence.

With time running out Blues upped the tempo, with wide man Craig Tanner running the Town defence ragged. After another foul on Tanner, Darryl Brentons free kick was magnificently headed home by Matthew Cox.

In injury time Tanner put in a brilliant cross to the far post but Jeffries was unable to test Wise with his header.

Town still found time to launch one final attack, but Blues keeper Lee Jones made a fine save to ensure his team a share of the points.

A much better performance by the Blues and one which should give a lot of confidence to the squad for the rest of the season.
