Blaenavon Blues - 2

Albion Rovers - 3

PLAYING their fourth game in eight days appeared to take its toll on Blaenavon Blues, who just couldn't prevent Albion Rovers from running away with the points. Blues started brightly, with skipper Mike Waite opening up the Rovers defence for Lee Penry to score from close range. Albion bounced back at the home side and Richard Williams was forced into conceding a corner. From the corner kick a goalmouth scrabble resulted in Rovers equalising. A mistake by Albion's centre backs let in Darren Harris, and the veteran striker made no mistake from 15 yards. Unfortunately for Harris this proved to be his last contribution to the game, as he went off with an injury and was replaced by Lloyd Jeffries. With half time approaching Albion were awarded a penalty. Blues keeper Lee Jones had no chance of stopping the resultant kick. At half time Blues lost centre back Matt Cox through injury. The second half started with the Blues unlucky not to take the lead, when a Rovers centre back kicked a shot off the line. At the other end Jones did well to put Albion's striker off his shot as he lined himself up. Albion enjoyed a period of pressure and it came as no surprise when they took the lead. Jones in the Blues goal could only parry a shot and an Albion striker knocked in the rebound. With time running out Blues manager Ryan Durham sent on young Domonic White. White was immediately in the action, heading Matthew Burns deep cross into the keeper's hands. White then sent a 30 yarder straight at the keeper. Penry worked hard to get Waite in on goal, but the keeper made a good save, Penry then tried to lob the keeper, unfortunately for him it was wide of the target. All in all a disappointing result for the Blues who must now try to get something out of their visit to Abertillery Excelsiors on Saturday.
