CRICKHOWELL High School's Heather Francis and Llangorse Sailing Club were both honoured at the 2014 Brecknock and Radnor Sports Partnership Annual Awards.

Sports stars from across mid and south Powys attended the awards ceremony held at the Pavilion in Llandrindod Wells last Friday

The accolades, which are organised collaboratively by the volunteer run Brecknock and Radnor Sports Partnership and Powys County Council's Sports Development Team, recognise and celebrate sporting success of local individuals and teams in sport at all levels.

Over 50 nominations were received across a wide range of sporting events and amongst this year's winners was Crickhowell High School's Heather Francis.

Heather, who is a Welsh U18 hockey player and a Platinum Young Ambassador, helping to promote and deliver sports opportunities in schools in the Crickhowell area, was presented with her Young Sports Leader Award by Rob Guy.

Collecting the Club of the Year Award was Llangorse Sailing Club. The sailing club achieved their goal of replacing the old clubhouse with a new £100,000 two storey building after securing support from Sport Wales, Powys County Council, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority and both loans and donations from club members. The club ran more races than ever in 2014 and achieved a 30 percent increase in participation. It was also awarded RYA 'On Board' status in 2014 in recognition of its junior training programme and also ran three taster days, one disability sailing day, three open regattas and acted as the base for the inaugural Llangorse triathlon in 2014.

Malcom Bates, Chairman of the Brecknock and Radnor Sports Partnership, said, "The evening was a wonderful celebration of sport in Brecknock and Radnorshire and I would like to congratulate all those who were successful on the night. The standards being attained by many of young sportspeople is a fantastic achievement."
