GOYTRE FC chairman David Melmoth has been praised for his years of dedication and service to the Plough Road club by newly-appointed player/coach Simon Truman.
Truman, who has played for Caldicot Town, Caerleon, Chepstow, Barry Town and Newport County amongst others, was a key mover and shaker in last season's Goytre side who earned promotion to Welsh League Division Two in the wake of a hugely successful 2011/12 campaign.
Preparing to pick up the reins of his first coaching role, the midfielder was quick to point to Melmoth as the reason for Goytre's momentum and continued success.
Truman explained, "Besides being chairman and a former player, Dave is the club's biggest fan and the work and service he puts in are the main reason for its push for success the last couple of seasons – he is Mr Goytre, simple as that!"
Truman pointed to the club's superb playing service and brand new clubhouse, which he believes is the best in the county, as evidence of Melmoth's hardcore commitment to Plough Road and added, "Without doubt, the credit for all of this goes to Dave Melmoth and his team, who all work unbelievably hard on providing us with these fantastic facilities."
Truman will join player/manager Carl Evans and assistant manager Mike Colecombe who led Goytre to the runner's up spot last season, after just missing out to county rivals Undy Town.
Truman and Evans go back a long way and could possibly forge a powerhouse partnership which could take Goytre on to much bigger and better things.
Playing together at Caerleon under Andy Beattie, where they achieved back-to-back promotions from Division Three up to Division One, the pair no a thing or two about the positive power of momentum.
Truman explained, "It was great to see Carl get success in his first season as a player manager, he worked his socks off both on and off the pitch and assembled a promotion winning side.
"We have a mutual trust and respect, so when he asked me to come on board as a player/coach and bring some of my ideas and experience to the table, it was an easy decision as Goytre's such a great club to be part of, and one I feel is definitely moving forward."
The 35-year old also added how he has hopes to do a little bit on the pitch for another season as well as initiate his coaching ideas, and revealed, "Last season our squad went on a fantastic run to win 15 out of the final 16 games, so we've basically signed back every player involved and we feel they'll be a strong squad to start the season with and capable of competing in Division Two.
"We are confident we can hold our own, because we have a great group of lads with a nice mix of experience and young talent, and we're all chomping at the bit for the season to start.
Goytre will get their first bit of the Welsh League Division Two cherry when they welcome Briton Ferry Llansawel to Plough Road this Saturday.
