TWO Abergavenny Tennis Club members have been honored by Tennis Wales in recognition of their performance and contribution made to the sport.
At the Tennis Wales annual award ceremony held last month, Abergavenny Tennis Club Head Coach and Director of Beacons Tennis Academy, Carys Howard Rees, was one of the finalists who represented ATC.
Carys captained the South Wales Women’s over 35’s team that won the Women’s 35 Inter-County Championship in 2015.
Despite facing strong nominations from other finalists in the ‘Team of the Year’ category, the South Wales Women’s 35 Team came out on top as the winners of this category.
Also, unbeknown to her before the award ceremony, Carys Howard had been nominated as a finalist in the ‘Personal Contribution Award’ category.
This category was for individuals who, through the course of 2015 had made an outstanding personal contribution to Tennis in Wales, which not only included playing tennis but also coaching, volunteering and helping to raise the profile of tennis in Wales.
To her complete surprise, Carys was chosen as the winner of the Tennis Wales Personal Contribution Award for 2015.
The second member from Abergavenny Tennis Club to be nominated at the awards was Jack Grayer.
Jack was one of the three finalists vying for the number one spot in the ‘Young Volunteer of the year’ award category. This category sought to recognise the achievement of young volunteers who contributed to the overall improvement of tennis in Wales.
Despite not winning the overall award, Jack contributed a remarkable 150 plus hours of time to help coach and assist other junior members of the club.
Abergavenny Tennis Club would like to congratulate and thank Jack for the outstanding contribution he has made to the Club in 2015.
