ABERGAVENNY visited Bedwas and Trethomas for their first game in the 2013 Carruthers Cup campaign. Unfortunately, although they won on two rinks, they lost the match by 86 shots to 76.

The rinks of Matthew Vale and Robert Poynter were successful. Robert Poynter's rink had built a twelve shot lead by the sixth end. Although this was gradually reduced, the victory was never in doubt. Then despite the Bedwas rink scoring five shots on the final two ends, the Abergavenny rink won by 22 shots to 19.

The rink of Matthew Vale was involved in a very close game with each team leading at various stages of their encounter. The Abergavenny rink was one shot behind with three ends to play but then scored six shots, without reply, to win by 21 shots to 16.

Although the scores were close throughout the game, the rink of Ieuan Jenkins could never quite wrest the initiative from the opposing rink. The Bedwas rink then confirmed their victory by scoring three shots on the final end to win by 20 shots to 16.

Gethin Hill's rink managed to be competitive for the first thirteen ends of their game, there being only a two shot difference between the rinks at this stage of the game. However, the Bedwas rink then scored 16 shots over the last eight ends, whilst conceding only four, to win by 31 shots to 17.

This Saturday Standard Bowls Club visit Avenue Road for a Carruthers Cup game and there is a GBL game at Bedwelty Park.
