LAST Saturday Abergavenny played at Abertillery in the MBA and against Whiteheads in the GBL at Avenue Road. Unfortunately both teams suffered defeats with the MBA side losing by 74 shots to 72 and the GBL side by 65 to 35.

In the MBA at Abertillery, Abergavenny won on two of the four rinks but in a very close game were unable to gain the aggregate victory and lost by the narrow margin of two shots.

The rinks of Robert Poynter and Ieuan Jenkins were successful by the scores of 20 shots to 16 and 18 shots to 17 respectively.

On Robert Poynter's rink the scores were level after 16 ends but they then scored eight shots over the next three ends to seal their victory. Ieuan Jenkins' rink fought back from a five shot deficit by scoring six shots over the last four ends to win their game.

John Marsh's rink was involved in a very close game but an excellent wood by the Abertillery skip on the eighteenth end converted a four shot loss to a one shot gain. This conversion enabled them to seal victory by 19 shots to 15. The rink of Matthew Vale dropped eight shots in the middle third of their game. They never quite recovered and so were beaten by 22 shots to 19.

With a weakened side the GBL team were defeated by Whiteheads. Bill Cooke's rink held it's own until the mid–point of the game but the opposition then seized the initiative to win by 23 shots to 12.

Brian Judd's rink fought back in the second half of the game but could not overturn their opponents lead, losing by 20 shots to 12. Gareth Jones's rink held an eight shot lead after five ends. Unfortunately, they could not maintain this lead and eventually were defeated by 22 shots to 11.

This Saturday Whiteheads are once again the visitors to Avenue Road but this time for an MBA game. The GBL team also play a league game at Six Bells.
