MONMOUTHSHIRE Golf Club Junior Open Day was held recently and with 44 entries from around the county the event was very fortunate to be blessed with some rare sunshine.

The Strokeplay event was won by Hannah Pugh from Whitchurch Golf Club with a score of gross 77–10 = 67.

Second was Callum Morris from the home club with 73–6=67. Jay Detheridge was third with 78–10=68. Best Gross was Nathan Humprheys with 71.

Jay Detheridge also won nearest the pin on the fifth and Matt Aston from Celtic Manor won the longest drive.

The Stableford competition was won by Charlie Smith from Alice Springs, 39 points, second was L. Jones from Pontypridd, 38 points and Jacob Jones from the Parc also with 38 points.

The nine hole competition was won by Toby Mayo with 16 points, second was William Morgan with 15 points and third was Charlie Lesbirel with 15 points.

The Monmouthshire Putter Strokeplay Competition for the Junior Section was won by Joel Wright with 63, second wa Dafydd Price with 65 and third was Jay Detheridge.

Nearest the pin was won by Ellis Jenkins. The nine hole competition for the younger juniors was won by Owain Jones with 17 points and William Morgan with 16 points.

Toby Mayo lost control of his driver in the very wet conditions and it ended up high in an oak tree and had to be retrieved by the green staff the next day!

The Olympic Medallion Stableford competition was won by Connor Phillips with 40 points, second was Joel Wright with 39 points and third was Joe Leddington with 39 points. Nearest the pin was won by Dafydd Price. The nine hole competition was won by William Morgan (24 points), second was Toby Mayo (16 points) and third was Owain Jones (15 points).

Callum Morris has represented the Gwent Under 16s in the Channel League with some excellent results against Somerset, Wiltshire and Glamorganshire.
