A group of veterans that regularly meet for breakfast on a Saturday morning have had their first get-together at its new venue.

The recent closure of Brewers Fayre on September 7th will have been sad news to many in the town, including those at the Abergavenny Combined Armed Forces Breakfast Club. They meet every month and had been using the restaurant for years before last month. But over the weekend, they celebrated a new beginning with breakfast at their new venue.

On Saturday, over 70 veterans along with family and supporters of their cause settled down for a delicious breakfast at the Gurkha Corner on Nevill Street.

“We were both honoured and humbled to be joined by the UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Veterans and Wing Commander Calvin Bailey MBE MP, who came all the way from Westminster,” Peter Farthing, former Chair of the town’s RBL branch said.

“The Minister was joined by Colonel James Phillips the Veterans Commissioner for Wales, Catherine Fookes MP, ex Mayor of Abergavenny Philip Bowyer and Town Principal Sandra Rosser, Lisa Rawlings from Valour Wales, Ray Taylor the founder of CAFVBC, Steve Lovell from Bridgend CAFVBC and Ron Bennett from Caldicot CAFVBC.”

They also raised over £500 for the Nepal Disaster Fund on the morning, when the auction of a large 3D printed Christmas elf - donated by Simon-Lisa Field and a raffle was held alongside the delicious meal.

“Thank you so much to all those who attended. You are such a fantastic bunch and I am so proud to be part of such an amazing group of people,” Peter continued.
