DESPITE taking an early five point lead, Usk were ultimately usurped by a 14-man Blackwood Stars who run away with the game on Saturday.
Following Jon Matthews early unconverted try for the home team, Blackwood bounced back with a vengeance to score three tries of their own and take a 5-17 lead.
An Usk prop managed to reduce the Blackwood lead when he bulldozed his way across the line for a try.
Emlyn Jones reduced their lead further with a run from the halfway line and Ieaun Williams added the points for the conversion to level the score at half time.
The second half began with Blackwood reclaiming their lead through another try. Ieuan Williams kicked a penalty for Usk to take them within two points.
The play went from end to end without either side taking the initiative until with just over 10 minutes remaining Blackwood Stars were reduced to 14 players.
Usk failed to capitalise and to add insult to injury Blackwood scored two further breakaway tries to win the day.
