IN the Gwent Central Premier Division match of the day, Usk were blitzed 5-1 on the 'Island' by current leaders Trevethin who outshone their hosts in wave after wave of unrelenting attack.

Lee Watkins managed to bag the consolation goal for his club.

Llanarth won their match away to Gilwern and District 3-1. Stephen Morgan gave Llanarth a 1-0 lead after seven minutes of play. Adam Carrington put Gilwern level with a goal five minutes later, but a mere one minute later Llanarth bounced back with a vengeance through Anthony Rennie to give themselves a 2-1 half-time lead. A goal in the 70th minute by Gavin Phillips wrapped it up for Llanarth.

Pandy returned to winning ways after they edged out Lower New Inn 4-3 at the South Fields, Cwmbran.

The two sides were all square at 2-2 going into the interval, but Pandy power prevailed. Pandy's goal-scorers were man-of-the-match Shaun Cheal, Paul Assirati, Michael Smith and Gareth Staphnil.

In Division One, the Blaenavon Blues won 2-1 at home to Panteg. Man-of-the-match Liam Powell bagged the Blues' equaliser before half-time, and the winner was scored by Leigh Carrick from a eight-yard shot in the 80th minute.

Mardy returned with maximum points from their visit to Race after winning the match 2-0.

Going 1-0 up after 30 minutes thanks to a Matthew Lynch penalty goal, Tom Copeland made the points safe with a goal in the second-half.

Man-of-the-match for the Mardy was Huw Llewellyn.

The Abergavenny Thursdays were delivered a dent to their pride when they were beaten 3-1 away by Pilcs. George Martin scored the sole strike for the Thursdays.

In Division Two, Llanarth 'B' made it a club winning double after breaking Gilwern 'B's' back 10-5 in the highest scoring affair of the day.

Hat-trick heroes Justin Chalmers and Dave Griffiths both scored for Llanarth, and their other goals came from Leigh Cuff, Anthony Kromrie, Paul Dethridge and Dave Watkins.

Goal scorers for Gilwern 'B' were Chris Morrell (2), James O' Connell (2), and Mark Davies.

Man-of-the-match for Gilwern was Jason Bennett. Man of the match for Llanarth was Justin Chalmers.

In the derby match between Llanfoist and Clydach 'B', Clydach came out better after winning 4-3. Goal scorers for Llanfoist were Andrew Ewers (2), and David Barry. Strikes for Clydach came from Neil Evans, Gareth Smith, Kyle Cheshire and Luke Welch.

An unusual injury occurred in this match when Clydach's Paul Travis had to be taken to Nevill Hall Hospital for treatment following a leg injury caused by a disguarded firework left on the pitch. The whole of the league would like to wish Paul a speedy recovery.

Usk Town 'B' fell foul of Trevethin 'B' after losing 6-3. Despite taking a 3-1 half-time lead, Usk failed to live with Trevethin 'B' who fired in fired in five goals in the second-half to take the day.

Usk's goals came from Mark Cordell, Pat Wong, and Steven Wade. Man of the match for Usk was Peter Phillips.
