Usk-based jeweller Deborah Edwards has been commissioned to design and create the crown which will be awarded to the winning entrant in the competition for the Pryddest - poetry written in free verse - at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

Deborah, who designs and makes all kinds of jewellery in her workshop, said she feels very honoured to be chosen to make the crown, especially as the Eisteddfod is coming to her home county.

“Initially, I had to send the organisers a letter and images of previous work. The people who were shortlisted were then visited in their workshops to discuss their proposals,” she explained.

Deborah was selected from the short list and has already started to create the crown.

“I’m really looking forward to finishing the piece and seeing it presented at the Eisteddfod,” she said.

“It’s been a challenge, but one that I am relishing. I am determined to make a crown fit for royalty.”
