TOWN councillors said a letter from MCC's chief executive regarding the former Park Street School project was "sarcastic" and a "slap in the face."
Members sent a letter to Colin Berg with their proposals for the former school as part of the Abergavenny Community Centre Group's plans.
Town councillor Frank Olding said the tone of the letter surprised him, "It is sarcastic and could be interpreted as rude and it is not good enough.
"We are expected to have professional courtesy in the job we do and it is what we should expect from the chief executive."
In Mr Berg's letter to the town council he states, "I am somewhat surprised that the town council were unaware that the county council has already instructed that Park Street be sold at full market value to assist in funding the medium term financial budget of the authority.
"The other suggestion about the sale of Tudor Street is somewhat premature. Your members will be aware of the demands on our capital budget, and will realise that disposing of any asset at a 'nominal fee' means sacrificing another project in the capital programme. I would be interested in knowing what projects the Town Council thought should be forgone to offset the disposal of an asset at less than best value."
Town councillor Olding said, "We were aware of it we were just asking them to reconsider. Asking about our project is a rhetorical question he does not expect us to send him a list of our projects."
Town councillor Norma Watkins said, "An awful lot of people have been working hard and it (the letter) is a slur on them. It makes it sound like we are interfering, this seems like a slap in the face.
